Children are motivated to join a gang for a sense of connection or to define a new sense of who they are. Others are motivated by peer pressure, a need to protect themselves and their family, because a family member also is in a gang, or to make money. The YG Movements’ hard work, community outreach programs, and events have been the positive, safe and, educating alternative to a gang for more than ten years. Now we want to take our efforts and cultivate something greater with Project T.R.A.P. (Teens Rising Above Poverty) by building a “safe haven” for the youth to thrive and excel without worry, as they push to rise above the unfortunate realities that they face every day.
Gang violence is rising at a rapid pace within Atlanta’s urban communities. Children need a safe place where they can grow, learn, and become successful in life. Unfortunately, a child growing up within an urban community is not given the same opportunities as the rest. They are simply not given the chance. Our goal is to change that narrative.
OUR MISSION is to provide a safe place for our youth to be empowered mentally, physically, and spiritually to become positive role models and rise above the statistics with a focus on educating the youth on knowledge of self, mental awareness and self-care, and entrepreneurship. Giving them a space to grow find their purpose with teaching and guidance and foster a commitment to young people that will promote pro-social friendships, strong interpersonal skills, and reassert a sense of hope in the future and give them the chance they deserve.
